Developmental communalities in tooth emergence timing.

چکیده
Intercorrelations and communalities are now well known for tooth formation (Garn et al., J Dent Res 39:1049, 1960), crown size of the permanent teeth (Moorees and Reed, Arch Oral Biol 9:685, 1964; Garn et al., J Dent Res 44:350, 1965), the deciduous teeth (Garn et al., JDentRes 56:1214, 1977), and crown size of deciduous teeth during odontogenesis (Garn et al., J Dent Res 58:554, 1979). However, comparable analytic information has not been presented for postnatal tooth emergence timing of 11 through M2. To explore these emergence relationships and their relative magnitudes, tooth emergence (timing) correlations were calculated using coded emergence data derived from serial casts of 204 participants in the Longitudinal Study of the University of Michigan (Moyers et aL, Standards of Human Occlusal Development, Ann Arbor: The Center for Human Growth and Development, 1976). Individual ages of tooth emergence were Z-scored for males and females separately for each of 28 permanent teeth, and the entire matrix of 121 pooled-sex tooth-pair intercorrelations was then computer correlated. Correlation coefficients for intra-quadrant pairs, antimeres, isomeres, and teeth separated by numbers of intervening teeth were separately averaged using the z transform of r As snown in the Table, where correlations are

Greater female communalities in prenatal hand and dental development.
As shown in 15 male and 17 female developmentally-normal, 6-9 week (15-47 mm crown-rump length) embryos, intercorrelations (communalities) involving both mesial and distal deciduous teeth and proximal and distal segments of the developing hand were systematically higher in female embryos than in male embryos, without exception, a finding in surprising accordance with postnatal dimensional and t...
متن کاملTiming of Colonization of Caries-Producing Bacteria: An Approach Based on Studying Monozygotic Twin Pairs
Findings are presented from a prospective cohort study of timing of primary tooth emergence and timing of oral colonization of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) in Australian twins. The paper focuses on differences in colonization timing in genetically identical monozygotic (MZ) twins. Timing of tooth emergence was based on parental report. Colonization timing of S. mutans were established by pl...
متن کاملMaternal and early life factors of tooth emergence patterns and number of teeth at 1 and 2 years of age.
Various environmental factors have been associated with the timing of eruption of primary dentition, but the evidence to date comes from small studies with limited information on potential risk factors. We aimed to investigate associations between tooth emergence patterns and pre-conception, pregnancy and postnatal influences. Dentition patterns were recorded at ages 1 and 2 years in 2915 child...
متن کاملGenetic modeling of primary tooth emergence: a study of Australian twins.
The aim of this study was to quantify contributions of genetic and environmental factors to variation in timing of emergence of the primary teeth in a sample of monozygotic and dizygotic twins, using univariate model-fitting approaches. The sample comprised 94 pairs of monozygotic twins and 125 pairs of dizygous twins, all of European ancestry, aged from 2-6 years. Tooth emergence timing was ba...
متن کاملTiming of emergence of the first primary tooth in preterm and full-term infants.
Variations in the timing of emergence of primary teeth are under strong genetic control, but there is also a significant contribution from external factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of preterm birth, birth weight and length, and feeding practices during the first 6 months of life on the timing of emergence of the first primary tooth. Data on pregnancy duration, birth ...
